LeMoyne-Owen College has been described as a 'beacon of hope' for first generation college students. It was founded in 1862 and has produced scholars, educators, healthcare professionals, elected officials, business and community leaders.

According to a news release, the historically black college and university (HBCU) graduated 104 students on May 11th.
