Entertainment entrepreneur: Greg Price

by Paula Anderson

Opening a business during the COVID-19 pandemic may not be a good time for some businesses, but it proved to be timely for an entertainment entrepreneur.

Greg Price, a native Memphian, owner and operator of The Vineyard Memphis said, “I'm actually a 3rd generation entrepreneur, so it's just in my blood to do this!,” said Price.

“We are Memphis Original 40plus Night Spot! Great Food Drinks and Live Entertainment! We are also available for rent!.”

In March 2020, non-essential business owners had to ‘shutdown’ temporarily and many were faced with not knowing if businesses would remain open or closed.

According to Price, he noticed an opportunity during this ‘uncertain time’ for many business owners.

“The Vineyard Memphis was actually birthed out of the pandemic. We knew Memphis needed a spot that caters to a mature crowd and we knew Whitehaven would be the perfect spot!,” said Price.

The entertainment venue attracts customers who are Baby Boomers and Generation Xers.

“We cater to a 40plus base that wants a great down home feel, great food, drinks and Live Entertainment. This is where grown folks Party, “ said Price.

Most entrepreneurs face challenges when starting and running a business.

“People that want a job has been our biggest challenge outside of the financial burdens that small businesses have to endure,” said Price.

Despite the challenges, Price continues to move forward.

“My motivation comes from all of those who I stand on the shoulders of to try to make a better way for my family and community,” said Price.

He also takes advantage of learning opportunities.

“The library hosts all sorts of educational resources for someone looking to start a business and they are all FREE. I made sure to take advantage of them all,” said Price.

On June 3, the 1988 class of Fairley High School will celebrate its 35th anniversary at the entertainment venue. Percy J. Hughes, Jr. graduated with honors.

"We walked as giants in the land. We were filled with promise and optimism towards the varied paths we had chosen. The hallowed halls of Fairley High School is where we made our mark, solidified our foundation. Times were different and we embraced...no, we lived every moment," said Hughes, Jr. 1988 graduate.

"Our teachers were wise and we let them teach. Now we have to do the same thing for our children. We have to give them a chance. We have to show them the way. And it's approaching the day whereas cost won't be a factor because we've paid all we can pay watching the lives of our children being taken away. Sadly, this too, is happened on our watch."
